Biker Boy
Dylan got a bicycle for Christmas - a big boy bike with training wheels! And of course, no bike would be complete without a cool helmet and pads to go with it. Prior to his bike, Dylan got around the neighborhood on his quad. One of those Fisher-Price batterty-operated cars. All he had to do was push down on the pedal and off he went. So when he got on his bike for the first time, he was like, "Dad, what's with these pedal thingys?" Dylan had become so accustomed to just pushing his foot down to go that we realized he didn't even know HOW to pedal a bicycle!
I realize that as we parents get older, many things we had as a child have become obsolete. Things like a typewriter, rotary phone, Atari and Commodore 64 - our kids will have NO IDEA what these things are. But one thing that should never become obsolete is good old-fashioned bike riding! So, in an attempt to keep bike riding from becoming a lost art, Darren and I are trying to get Dylan off the quad and onto his bike. Here are some cute pics we took last week:

He pedals like a champ now, by the way. And he's even mastered the tricky "reverse" brake. : )
